Structural Degradation Prediction of Reinforced Concrete Traffic Bridges by Deformation
Within 10 to 20 years almost 50% of all concrete bridges in the Netherlands are subjected to structural degradation by corrosion. In addition, corrosion is only one of the many occurring degradation mechanisms. There is an increasing need for determining the rest capacity of reinforced concrete bridges and overpasses. Deformation monitoring is one of the most used techniques to determine the structural ‘health’ of the structure. PSInSAR is a new satellite deformation monitoring technique and provides new monitoring possibilities with mm precision. In order to determine the structural deformation behavior of the structure, the relationship between deformation and structural degradation must be carefully studied and modelled. Hence, results can contribute to systematically monitoring the structural safety of concrete structures and facilitating precautionary measures, timely warnings and effective mitigation in order to minimize economic loss and casualties.
This introductory colloquium provides an literature overview, my progress and a detailed explanation of my approach.
