Coupled Buckling of Hollow Section Braces and Chords in Optimized Welded Lattice Girders
Most lattice girders, found in practice, have the same brace dimensions along the length of the lattice girder. Due to the force distribution in the lattice girder, the compression brace, closest to the support, will always buckle first. The location at which buckling of the chord might occur is at midspan. Therefore, this research aims to shift the location of the first occurrence of buckling towards midspan. It is investigated whether brace buckling can influence chord buckling and vice versa, which might ultimately lead to coupled buckling.
