Dynamic Control of Adaptive Structures
During the last decades, control systems have revolutionised the modern society on multiple levels. However, buildings are still designed as static structures, consuming large amounts of material which is only used effectively in extreme loading conditions. Implementing control systems within civil structures can further decrease the amount of material needed while still satisfying strength and stability criteria and even improve the dynamic response of certain structures under dynamic loadings.
In this presentation the implementation of control software on an adaptive structure will be demonstrated. To this extend, an adaptive pedestrian bridge with a span of 5 meters has been build and tested. Alongside this case study, numerical models which predict the efficiency of the used control strategy will also be presented.
