Two-Way Coupling of CFD Fire Simulations and FE Modelling on Thin Walled Steel Structures

The dangers of fire on structural integrity and human safety are well known. The influence of changes in system integrity on the behaviour of the fire is less well known. For instance, failure of a window or local element result in openings which change the fire behaviour, and consequently influence the fire load on the structural elements. This interaction can be studied by a two-way coupling of fire simulation, heat transfer analysis, and structural analysis. Results could contribute to a better understanding of fire and its behaviour. This intermediate Colloquium focusses on the separate analysis and coupling steps. In addition several coupling scripts, to automate the coupling procedure, are discussed.
