Creep of aluminium in fire conditions
Aluminum alloys experience large reductions to their elastic stiffness, proof strength, ultimate strength and creep strength when heated over the range of 100–400 ◦C, which is well below the temperature of many fires. As a result, aluminum structures can distort, buckle and collapse within a short time when exposed to a hot fire. The constitutive behavior of aluminum alloys at elevated temperatures is dominated by creep. This makes aluminum structures relatively sensitive to fire.
