SHM of stresses along a monopile structure of an Offshore Wind Turbine

During this graduation project we try to develop a methodology for a structural health monitoring system for stresses along a monopile of an offshore wind turbine (OWT). The goal is to be able to characterize the dynamical response of the structure based on the output of acceleration and strain measurements done on the OWT.

The methodology used in order to achieve the above described goal is an iterative process between a numerical and analytical analysis. A FE model is made in ANSYS which provides input for the design of a test setup of a monopile structure. The measured accelerations and strains on the test setup will provide information for which we can improve the FE model. The improved FE model is aimed to be a tool for characterizing the dynamical response of an OWT, depending on the changes in soil stiffness.
