Lustrum IX TATA Steel Excursion

Exploring the beginnings

On the 18th of December we will visit for the Lustrum the impressive industry complex of TATA steel IJmuiden. At this enormous steel plant we will see how one our most used building materials is produced and how that forges the many useful qualities of steel. A good example of this is the use of steel in all kind of connections due to its strength, stiffness and formability. Even if the connection connects elements that are not made of steel itself. However, we will also discuss interactively the negative impact of the steel production on the (in)direct environment. With in depth knowledge of production process, the effect on the product and the environment we can minimize the flaws of the material and/or find alternatives.

We will go to this interesting excursion by bus, so be there at 8:45 since the bus is leaving at exactly 9:00 from the TU/e. The exact location will be communicated later. Since the activity will take the entire day, TATA steel arranged lunch for us. After the program, the bus leaves again at around 17:00-18:00. We will grab an easy dinner together on our way back (at your own costs), more information about that later, and arrive at the campus again between 19:00-20:00.

There are only limited spots available with a deadline on the 3rd of December, and with the long run up to the lustrum it will be first come, first serve. So are you interested? Sign up now!
