Excursion Structural Design with Glass
We are excited to invite you to a site visit at Building TX on Strijp T, organized as part of the course "Structural Design with Glass." In collaboration with engineering firm Van de Laar This visit will provide a unique opportunity to explore the innovative use of glass in structural design, as well as other aspects of this challenging construction project.
Details of the Visit:
• Date: 26th March
• Time: 15:30
• Location: Building TX, Strijp T, Eindhoven
• Please bring your own safety shoes (or bring them from the lab)
Building TX, originally a Philips machine factory built in 1956-1957, is currently undergoing a significant transformation into a modern multi-user business building. The renovation includes the installation of large glass panels, which we will discuss in detail during our visit. Additionally, we will explore other parts of the construction to understand the complexities and innovations involved.
The existing building measures 67.5x270 meters and consists of a steel structure with truss girders on a 15x15 meter grid and has partially a basement. In the new situation, three office towers of 30 meters high will be added in or connected to the existing factory, creating many interesting connections between the existing building and the new construction.

We look forward to your participation in this insightful and educational excursion.
