End Colloquium Nienke van Gisteren
Dear KOers members,
Over the past year, I have been researching filament-wound flax fibre composites. These bio-based composites have the potential to provide a more sustainable alternative to traditional composite materials, but their behaviour is strongly influenced by the manufacturing process.
For my Master's thesis I investigated how manufacturing choices such as compaction and fibre surface treatment affect the internal material structure, mechanical performance, and failure behaviour of these composites. To do so, I combined mechanical testing with acoustic emission measurements and CT scanning to study the materials across multiple scales.
During the colloquium, I will share the motivation behind the project, the experimental programme, and the main findings that help explain the link between manufacturing, material state, and structural performance.
If you are interested in hearing more about it, feel free to join!
Kind regards,
Nienke Gisteren
