Numerical Optimization of Welded Aluminum Slotted SHS-to-Gusset Plate Connections

The study focuses on developing a finite element approach to model welded aluminum slotted SHS-to-gusset plate connections, including heat-affected zones. The developed method is used to optimize the connection based on parameters from steel literature. The optimization results are then compared with steel design recommendations to evaluate their applicability to aluminum welded connections that include heat-affected zones.
