Lunch Lecture Buro Happold
During the lunch lecture, we will introduce Buro Happold Rotterdam and present the structural design and challenges of two key projects. These include Oopen Utrecht—a 105-meter-tall tower with a timber CLT structure which involved parametric structural dynamics calculations to ensure that the accelerations of the CLT floor slabs remained within acceptable comfort limits — and of course Jewel Changi Airport, one of the destinations of the Koers study trip. For Jewel Changi, we will explain the structural force transfer mechanisms in this iconic building, including the tension zone near the oculus and the compression ring supported by the columns. We will delve into the structural design, focusing on challenges such as the parametric design and penalisation, the diagrid node connections and the divergent mock-ups and structural assembly. We hope to see you all on Thursday!
Lunch will of course be provided by your lovely KOers board members.
